Further Information

The photographic book Contingencies of Light: Dark, The Darkest I Dare to Go, is a journey through the telescopes found on the Mountain of Kitt Peak, Arizona through the dust and large barrels of the telescopes.

The only person featured in the book is Detrick, a technician I captured in a balletic pose, experimenting with a dark filter to shield the harmful rays of sun from his eyes during an annular eclipse.

In order to perform the book, I re-imagined the image of Detrick. The dancer Jumeee performed a sequence of balletic moves, accompanied by an original score by Dorian Ford, eventually creating, through the intervention of his body through the light beams and dust, the image of the sun and the moon as seemingly created in the photographic image.
